Why do I keep falling asleep when I lay down?
Quickly falling asleep when lying down may indicate narcolepsy, inadequate sleep hygiene, or sleep deprivation. Your body could “crash” as soon as you unwind if you’re sleep deprived. Another neurological disorder called narcolepsy may result in abrupt, unpredictable sleep episodes that often begin when you’re laying down. An erratic sleep routine, stress, or worry are other possible reasons. Some individuals use the alertness-promoting drug Modalert (modafinil) to increase wakefulness. But before using it, it’s important to speak with a doctor. Addressing the root cause requires putting a high priority on regular sleep, a relaxing nighttime ritual, and good sleep hygiene.
